Matthews received word last week of the death of his father, James Matthews in Salem, Ore. Mr. Matthews was 92 years old and has visited with his son here many times. W. A.

Matthews was unable to attend the funeral in Salem because of a broken leg received in an auto accident. The elderly man is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Dae Stafford and Mrs. Mae Cochran, both of Salem, and three Hons, Clement Matthews, Past, J. D.

A Missouri editor refuses to publish obituary notices of people, who, while living, failed to subscribe to his newspaper, and gives this pointed reason: "People who do not take the home town paper are dead anyway, and their passing away has no news value." The editor of a country weekly came home to dinner smiling hap pily. "You must have had some good luck this morning," greeted his wife. "I did," he said, "Jim Smith, who hasn't paid his subscription for 10 years, came in and stopped his paper." An Arkansas woman advertised for a husband. She got one at a cost of $9.
