Matthews received word last week of the death of his father, James Matthews in Salem, Ore. Mr. Matthews was 92 years old and has visited with his son here many times. W. A.

Matthews was unable to attend the funeral in Salem because of a broken leg received in an auto accident. The elderly man is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Dae Stafford and Mrs. Mae Cochran, both of Salem, and three Hons, Clement Matthews, Past, J. D.

A Missouri editor refuses to publish obituary notices of people, who, while living, failed to subscribe to his newspaper, and gives this pointed reason: "People who do not take the home town paper are dead anyway, and their passing away has no news value."
