4-H Youth Fair to be Open Tonight Itavalli county's Hrsl 4-11 youth fair opened this morning at the fair grounds amid a festive atmosphere of county fair days. There was a fair crowd on hand this ufieruoon but a larger crowd Is tonight to view the exhibits of 236 individuals from 27 4-U clubs in the vallev. LOCAL INVENTOR TO LEAVE FOlt SEATTLE MONDAY FOLLOWINU VISIT IIEHE E. II. Curruthers, who is employed In Seattle, will return there Monday following a week's visit at his home here.

Mr. Carruthers has invented a dual wheel and tire lift and has obtained authorization from the WPD to construct the device for military purposes. Four have already been sent to the Aleutians for navy use and he has another navy order for 200. The device is constructed in two sizes and Is used for removing single and dual wheels from tiucks to line brakes or pack bearings. It Is also very useful In removing wheels from airplanes and construction equlpiueut.

Mr. Carruthora spent two years In perfecting the device and obtained patents on It last year. He has entered partnership with two Seattle men for the manufacture and distribution of the device. THUEE-DAY WASTE PAPEH DRIVE SCHEDULED FOH COHVALLIS STARTING SEPT. 0 dorvallis, Sept.

1. A three-day community Bcrap paper drive will start Wednesday under the auspices of the American Lelgon auxiliary, it was announced today by Legion Commander W. Schram and Mlas Veta Ilolloran, auxiliary president. The drive here will be part of the all-valley paper salvage, under the direction of Fred 11 lard, Hamilton, valley chairman. Urslng co-opcratlon of everybody in the district Commander Schram asks that all available scrap, paper, including newspapers, magazines, cardboard boxes and books, be delivered to the Parson Pile honey house on Main street.

A committee of auxiliary members will be there to receive the paper and to prepare, it for shipping. To expedlale delivery It Is suggested that contributors bundle their and magaslnes. tied firmly with heavy string or twine, although the salvage paper will be welcomed In any form, Commander Hchrara saU. Those unable to deliver Ihelr scrap paper are asked 10 communlca'e with Mr. Hchram or Miss Ilolloran by telephone or wail and trucks will available for hauling.

Tax Collections $338,019 for 1943 Real estate and property tax collections for 1943 In IUvalll county amounted to $338,019.82. W. A. Matthews, county treasurer, reported Thursday. The total to be collected for the year amounted to leaving a delinquency of $40,166.59 as of May 31.

Real estate taxes collected amount ed to $330,313.39, leaving a delinquency of $39,970,31. Personal property tax collections amounted to $7,706.43, leaving a delinquency of $196.28. This latter figure had been cut to $90.62 on June 30. The 1942 personal tax delinquency was $955.50 and In 1941 It was $1121.64. In addition to the current taxes collected Mr reported that delinquent tax payments In 1943 amounted to $40,166.59, of which $39,970.31 was on real estate and $196.28 on personal properly.

The total lax delinquency on June 30, 1941. was $74,547.94, of which $56. 098.60 Is on real and Is on personal property.
